Description
Bilbao is the heart of a metropolitan area with over 1,000,000 inhabitants. Visitors are usually astonished by the appearance of buildings in Bilbao. The historic and monumental area of the Casco Viejo, restored after the floods in 1983, becomes the reference for reconstructing the history of the city since its origins, in the early Middle Ages. The Ensanche has an undeniably rich urbanistic ensemble, with modernist and rational buildings mingling together. The Building for the Bilbao Guggenheim Museum, opened in 1997, is the masterwork of the universally famous architect Frank O. Gehry.
