Dresden has many facets, the most charming of which is the historic city centre – a place of special atmosphere and unique architectural ensemble. It is characterised by numerous architectural masterpieces: the Brühl Terrace, the Royal Palace, the cathedral, the Zwinger Court and the Semper Opera House. In a central position at the reconstructed Neumarkt stands the most important church building of the Evangelical Lutheran Christians in Germany, the baroque Frauenkirche. Since its completion in 2005 it has once again become the city’s symbol. A few footsteps away the Procession of Princes presents itself as the greatest porcelain tableau in the world, made up of 25,000 Meißen porcelain tiles. Yet Dresden’s cityscape also lives from the contrast between tradition and modernity. With visionary buildings such as the New Synagogue, Volkswagen’s transparent factory Dresden and the dome of Dresden’s central station Dresden sets the standard for modern architecture. The majority of the attractions, hotels and conference venues are only a few minutes’ walk away from each other. This means stress-free running of events and more time for Dresden.
