Description

Plan your next event in the Cultural Capital of Europe...
Austria’s second city, Graz, offers the perfect backdrop for conventions, fairs and incentives.
The year as Cultural Capital of Europe 2003 has put Austria’s second city, Graz, firmly on the map of leisure and business travellers alike. One reason for this is the tremendous creativity of the city. Graz enjoys a reputation as a cultural, economic and scientific centre in the southeast of Austria and lends itself ideally as a communication centre in a now expanded European community.
With its host of new attractions, already impressive landmarks to the cityscape - like a museum of contemporary art, the “Friendly Alien”, by the British architect duo Peter Cook and Colin Fournier or an artificial island in the river Mur by the New York artist Vito Acconci, to name but a few – together with the city’s charming Old Town (named a World Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO), it’s flair, Mediterranean climate, scores of first-class hotels in top city locations and easy access through an International Airport, Graz possesses all the infrastructure necessary for successful and pleasant events. In Graz everything is around the corner – within walking distance. All main facilities are situated in the heart of the city: congress venues, hotels, cultural attractions, shopping and restaurants. Graz is known for being clean, safe and green.
Congress + event graz comprises the two greatest and biggest convention locations: the Congress Graz and the Stadthalle Graz. The Congress Graz, the flagship among meeting locations in Graz and a founding member of the Historic Conference Centres of Europe, offers the perfect setting for events of all kinds in the centre of Graz’ Old Town. New event locations in Graz include the Stadthalle with its adjacent congress centre, which can host events for up to 11,000 participants and further adds to the attraction of Graz as an event destination.
Around 15% of overnights stays in Graz can be attributed to convention, seminar, trade fair and incentive travellers. The Graz Convention Bureau was founded a couple of years ago with the aim of providing each individual event organiser with the best possible service from one single source: Share your ideas with us and we will suggest the ideal location from our comprehensive event venue database. Whether you prefer a historical setting, a futuristic ambience or something in-between, we can come up with venues to suit every taste. www.graztourism.at/venues The Graz Convention Bureau keeps the official Graz Convention and Trade Fair Calendar and is able to inform organisers on all important dates and events in the city. www.graztourism.at/calendar
The range and quality of the city and conference hotels on offer in Graz have improved considerably in recent years. The Graz Convention Bureau is familiar with all the hotels and can provide you with all the information you might need as to capacities, seminar rooms and conference facilities of the city’s hotels. We would also be pleased to request quotations and quotas for your event on your behalf.

In conductor Nikolaus Harnoncourt who grew up in Graz, the Styrian summer festival of classical music styriarte has found a pioneering mentor and promoter. The exceptionally well-preserved old town of Graz with its many historic settings and halls and the modern architecture of the Helmut-List-Hall together offer a truly unforgettable backdrop for this classic festival. However, cultural diversity is one of Graz’s main features and the yearly agenda comprises a series of other festivals, among them the festival of Austrian film ‘Diagonale’, the street and puppet theatre festival ‘La Strada’, the Jazz Summer, the festival of contemporary art ‘steirischer herbst’, the ‘recreation’ (orchestra music) and the mountain and adventure film festival.
