Description

Jyväskylä – Human Technology City

Jyväskylä is a charming and buzzing city where people live, work and study within easy reach of services yet close to nature. Next year 2009 New Jyväskylä is going to be Finland's seventh largest city with 130 000 inhabitants. New Jyväskylä is among Finland's fourth to fifth leading urban areas.

Jyväskylä is one of Finland’s centres of growth, known for its high level of expertise in the manufacture of paper and paper machines as well as environmental, information, wellness, and nanotechnology. In these branches Technopolis Jyväskylä fosters entrepreneurial activity based on new technology in cooperation with the University of Jyväskylä and other organisations.
People in Jyväskylä earn their living in service professions, the manufacture of wood processing products and paper machines, as well as in various branches of high technology.

There are nearly 40,000 students in Jyväskylä during the academic year.
The university, the university of applied sciences as well as the local vocational colleges are all actively engaged in international research projects and student exchange: There are over 800 foreign students in Jyväskylä each year.
Younger school-goers from other countries are given special assistance in adapting to the Finnish school system. Studying in English is possible right from the first grade of primary education.

Whether you are an arts’ lover or a sports enthusiast, Jyväskylä has something for every taste and budget. The city is especially known for its rich variety of culture; museums, art exhibitions, concerts, events, theatre performances and of course the world-famous architect Alvar Aalto and his works.
Finland’s only university-level institute to study sport and health sciences is in Jyväskylä which, in turn, promotes the significance of physical fitness and well-being.
Jyväskylä also ranks as one of Finland’s most popular city of fairs and congresses.
Every August Neste Oil Rally Finland – the Finnish round of the World Rally Championship – brings speed and excitement onto the streets of the city.
