Description
Turku is a fascinating combination of past and present. It has something to offer for both the urban visitor and the visitor interested in the treasures of history. An unforgettable experience to visitors is the beautiful Turku Archipelago, which is one of the largest in the world.
Turku is a city of high technology, is home to three universities, the Finnish-speaking university, and the Swedish-speaking Abo Akademi, as well as the Turku School of Economics. All three work in active cooperation with industry and commerce in the Turku Technology Centre.
Turku is an important harbour, commerce and fair city. It also serves as an important link between East and West.
From Turku there are direct flight connections to Stockholm, Copenhagen and to the Åland Islands as well as several daily connections to and from Helsinki.
The cultural life in Turku is rich. There are many theatres, museums and concerts to visit. Several international and national fairs and exhibitions are organized every year in Turku.
Turku has 20 hotels with a total of 4000 beds, a youth hostel and a camping site. There are some 150 restaurants, 50 cafés and 30 pubs in the centre of Turku.
