The leading exclusive event for the Arabian meetings, incentives, conferences and events industry
ibtm arabia is a three day event in Abu Dhabi focused on uniting Middle East and international MICE suppliers with highly qualified meeting and event planners. Join many key industry names travelling far and wide to participate in the 12th edition of the event.
Looking back 10 years, the global marketplace and practice of urban travel has changed at break-neck speed through developments of digital and mobile innovation, global transaction technology, social media, sharing economy and many more disruptive factors. Most of them would have been outrageous projections in 2007. Imagining an augmented reality shopping experience using smart shopping glasses and iris authentication, facial recognition security check-ins at airports or Facebook AI technology to predict travel propensity can seem outrageous now in 2017, forecasting a future like this is probably much closer than you think.
The professional creed of DMOs is facing the biggest challenge and possibility for decades. Many have already recognized the need to disrupt the classic role and function of DMOs as the cities’ official marketing agency, emphasizing instead the need for the DMO to add the destination management function as a core task. Yet, more and more DMOs are looking beyond management to leadership, taking on a new mission of leading their destination towards urban innovation, facilitating change and expanding horizons towards new value creation for the city and the many stakeholders of the visitor economy.
With “Hack the City”, ECM is not endorsing cybercrime, but rather following in the footsteps of the best of Jedi knights, looking towards the dark side to leverage and learn from a mindset that ignites innovation and disruption. As described by Josh Linkner, putting motives aside, hacking is nothing more than an unorthodox problem-solving methodology. And DMOs today are facing big problems, demanding a change of mindset and tools to stimulate and facilitate urban development and innovation in the visitor economy.
In proud association with Visit Reykjavík and our Icelandic partners, we will showcase how DMOs all over Europe are morphing their business models, forming new partnerships out of the touristic marketing box and hacking innovative new solutions to the problems, we all face.
We invite you to Reykjavík – the best of places within our solar system to talk about the future. Smack in the middle of the old and new world with a lunar landscape unlike any other earthly place of incredible nature, dramatic Atlantic skies and great people! We invite you to explore a near future, where DMOs are the hackers too with the potential to drive the innovative change that will reshape the future of travel and urban space.
So, welcome to Reykjavík!
Over the course of 2 days you will learn everything about content and the people behind it. A wide range of Content Leaders and Creators will be invited on stage to share their work with you and engage in discussion as they reveal the process behind it.

ibtm events, part of Reed Travel Exhibitions, recently announced that it is integrating ibtm latin america and ibtm america to create ibtm americas. The event will take place in Mexico City from 5-6 September 2018.
The decision enables ibtm americas to capitalise on the growing success of ibtm latin america and the rapid development of the market in that region, while allowing for growth in the North America market.
Kerry Prince, Portfolio Director, ibtm events, comments: “It’s no secret that the potential for growth in Latin America is huge and that the region is increasingly being recognised as a major player in the industry. We believe that our event in Mexico, already highly successful, has real scope to further support the market to become a prime date in the global events industry calendar, therefore combining the event to incorporate the North American market to create ibtm americas feels like a very natural evolution of the portfolio.
Herve Sedky, President, Reed Exhibitions Americas continues “We are looking forward to combining the experience of our Mexico team, our ibtm america team and the wider Reed Travel Exhibitions team and bring that to ibtm Americas. Ultimately by merging the two events we can offer bigger opportunities and a richer experience to our exhibitors, Hosted Buyers and visitors.”
ibtm latin america has been growing exponentially year on year; in 2016 the event saw a significant increase in international exhibitors – up 100%, with the event set to grow by over 40% in 2017.
The expanded ibtm americas will also see an increase in Hosted Buyers from North America of 800%, as well as continuing to attract senior level decision makers from latin, central and south America. Currently ibtm latin america attracts 12% of its exhibiting companies from North America and this will continue to increase as the new show expands and develops.
David Hidalgo, Show Director, ibtm Americas comments: “We have developed an excellent working relationship with our partners in Mexico City and we are looking forward to continuing to build on that as we work together to deliver what I am confident will be an incredibly successful event with real longevity. Our customers mean everything to us, there really is nothing more important than them and I firmly believe the changes we are making will ensure we’re delivering the very best value and opportunities to them for the long term.”
The wider portfolio remains unchanged following the merger. Flagship show ibtm world continues to be held annually in Barcelona, with the landmark 30th edition of the event taking place this year from 28-30 November. ibtm china 2017 takes place from 23-24 August, in Beijing; ibtm arabia will take place 5-7 February 2018 in Abu Dhabi and ibtm africa from 19-20 April 2018 in Cape Town. ibtm events will produce its final edition of AIME 2018, from 20-21 February, in conjunction with Melbourne Convention Bureau.
Both events are directed toward managers, academics, as well as consultants and representatives of governments and international organizations dealing with tourism. Participants are invited to register for both days or can choose to participate in just one event.
Registration will open later this year.
The participation in the workshop/seminar is free; however, travel and accommodation need to be covered by each participant.
We look forward to welcoming you in Vienna!
